Description

From the islands to your dinner table, Loco Moco is Hawaiian comfort food made with rice and a burger smothered with rich gravy and optionally a runny yolk.

Ingredients:

1 2 servings of cooked white rice

2 3/4 lb ground beef

3 2 tsp kosher salt

4 2 tsp black pepper

5 1 tbsp olive oil

6 1 tbsp flour

7 1 1/2 cup beef broth

8 1 tbsp soy sauce

9 1 tbsp butter

Instructions:

1 Prepare rice per instructions on the package

2 Shape the ground beef into 2 patties season with salt and pepper.

3 Fry the patties in 1 Tbsp olive oil until they are 160 on an instant-read thermometer then set aside.

4 Reduce heat to medium-low. Add the flour to the skillet. Cook for 1-2 minutes, stirring continuously.

5 Add 1/2 cup beef broth to the skillet, and stir to combine.

6 Add the remaining beef broth and soy sauce. Cook until thickened, about 5 minutes. Whisk in butter. Season with salt and pepper to taste.

7 Place a cooked patty on top of the rice. Spoon gravy over top.

8 [Optional] Top with a cooked egg, and garnish with green onions.

Contributors Notes:

This can be made with pre-formed hamburger patties or even crumbled ground beef.
